When Chengton called the name "to. 12"
I knew that he meant defendant. Exhibit C: 12 was made and used for the purposes of the business. I had authority to put a name on the list. All the books and papers of the business were seized in the raid - none were saved. They are all here in Court. The total amount of payments shown in Exhibits C. 12. A. is $146.88.
To the Jury. The daily payments of truck many do not appear in the Teager, but they do appear in the exhibits marked B.
At 2.10 p.m. the Bar is adjourned until tomorrow Tuesday, the 3rd August, 1897.

Arathoon Seth, sworn. Examined by Dur Francio, states. Deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court. I have a knowledge of Chinese as spoken, not written. Since the last adjournment, have, with the aid of the interpreter in the Registrar General's office, carefully examined Exhibits A '13 and B, the latter containing 18 slips. These slips contain daily receipts and expenditure. These accounts are balanced daily. Each slip therefore shows a balance to debit or credit. These balances are carried on into the ledgers A1-A3. In these ledgers at certain periods, a balance is struck of profit and loss. The entry is for the 14th day of the 11th moon. The year is not mentioned - only the months. The last entry is for the 19th day of the 5th moon - the 18th June, if the year is 1897. The totals at the foot of the columns of profit and loss are minus.
From an examination of the books, I am satisfied that the items are carried through the books and are included in the profit and loss accounts. [Summary of the accounts part in and marked I] Asset. I went through each one of Exhibit B. There are only slips. They go into two months - the 11th month and the 5th month - 3 days in the 11th month and 15 days in the 5th month.
